The Birla Institute of technology(BIT),Mesra,Ranchi was founded by the Philanthropist, Industrialist Mr.B.M.Birla, in the year 1955,as part of his life long commitment towards building a technologically advanced and industrially strong India. The achievements of the Institute, both in terms of research and excellent standards of academic programmes led to its attaining the status of a Deemed University under the UGC Act of the Government of India, in 1986, and one of the top Technical institutes of the country today.

BIT offers undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral level programmes in all major branches of engineering and technology, architecture, pharmaceutical science as well as management. The Institute has laterally expanded through establishment of several extension centres, both in India and abroad. In India BIT has Extension Center at Nadia,  Kolkata, Ranchi, Jaipur, Naini(Allahabad), Deoghar, Patna & Chennai. BIT is the first India Institute, having status equivalent to a University that ventured to establish full-fledged campus outside India. International Center are located at Bahrain, Muscat (Sulatanate of Oman), and Ras-Al-Khaima(UAE).

 

Department of Computer Science & Engineering

 

The Department of CSE was established in the year 1983. Today the department is recognized as one of the leading departments in its domain with infrastructure and facilities to match the very best in the country. The department is equipped with a state of the art Fujitsu HPC System and Cloud computing facilities along with seven laboratories with over 500 computers available for conducting laboratory sessions facilitating different platforms in diverse topics. All the Laboratories are internally networked. The department has three specialized labs on IOT, Computational Intelligence and machine Learning. Faculties and students carry out research in the areas like: Bioinformatics, DNA Computing, Parallel Computing, Grid Computing, Image Processing, Robotics, Intelligent Systems, Rough Sets, DNA Nanorobotics, Software Engineering, Sensor Networks, Data Mining, Pattern Recognition etc.
